This is what we believe to be a superb pair of Bohemian white cut to clear glass vases, dating from the mid to late 19th century, c1860.
One of the vases is in excellent condition for its age, the other has a chip to the foot. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 150 years of use.
The vases were blown in clear glass, cased in white glass which was then cut through to the clear glass to leave the pattern, and then the resultant pattern was cold-gilded. The vases have seven-sided panel-cut necks, above two prism cuts, above a wide central band of diamond cutting, above two more prism cuts, above a basal band of panel cuts. The vases sit on small conical feet that measure 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter and which are cut with roundels. The bases are plain and carrry polished out pontil marks. The vases are an impressive 35 cm (14 inches) in height and are 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) wide at the shoulders.
One of the vases has a chip out of the foot which could potentially be restored using resin, enamel and gilt. There are no other chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other evidence of restoration. Each vase weighs in at 1.3 kg.
