Vintage Kosta Vase Contrast by Asymmetry by Vicke Lindstrand. This beautiful piece is in really lovely condition.

We have had this vase for many years and although we knew it was a lovely piece we have held onto it hoping one day we could identify it. The underside of the base is so scratched we could not work out the engraved marks. We thought it might be Vicke Lindstrand and spent a lot of time in researching on the net and in many books. The vase has sat on a shelf in our store room just waiting for identification until quite by chance we saw the article shown.

The vase was designed by Vicke Lindstrand and is from the Contrast by Symmetry series from the 1950's. Please see the article from the 1958 Decorative Art Year Book published by Studio Vista. This is a rare piece and search as we might we have not been able to find another. The vase has a beautifully simple ovoid shape with a cut stepped side. The cut crystal is crisp and clean and the reflections created by this piece are just lovely. The piece is in beautiful condition.

The underside of the base is heavily scratched as shown. There is an inclusion in the crystal to the middle centre as shown. There are also faint scratches to the outside that show in the same photo. To the smooth side is a pinch in the crystal with a few tiny sand like impurities.

There are a few tiny included bubbles. The cut stepped edges have a small amount of rubbing to the outside edges seen under a magnifying glass with one small flake only to the crystal seen with the naked eye and shown in the last photo. All these are carefully noted so there is no disappointment on the vase's arrival.

Please note these faults are minor and in no way detract from the beauty of the piece. This piece is over 60 years old and still delights with its form and design. There are no interior marks from use to this piece, no clouding or etching. It measures approximately 150mm tall and 140mm wide at the widest point. This is a heavy piece.
